A retro adventure inspired by a classic

Tutankham Returns (C64) is a free action title made by indie dev LC-Games. This 2D adventure was inspired by the classic Tutankham game released back in 1982 by Konami. It features similar gameplay and design, with some newly designed levels, which were created by the developers themselves.

Joining the likes of Bagman Strikes Back (C64) and C64 Commando Remake, Tutankham Returns (C64) is a game created specifically for the classic Commodore 64 home computer system. It features pixel art graphics that utilize sprites and neon colors that were popular with titles at the time.

A modern tribute to a classic

The classic Tutankham arcade game is about an explorer who raids the maze-like tomb of Egyptian ruler Tutankhamun in search of treasure. Players will need to collect a key to unlock the door to the next level while avoiding various creatures pursuing them or killing them with their bi-directional laser gun. Tutankham Returns (C64) is a modern-day remake of the original with some new original content mixed in.

This remake does a fine job of replicating the original. You still get four difficulty levels to choose from, as well as two firing methods for your character's laser weapon. You even get the screen-clearing flash bomb that you can use if you find yourself in a tight spot once per life, as well as the warp zones that will transport you to another part of the level.

Where the game introduces something different from the classic game is with the levels it provides. This release features seven new levels that were all originally designed specifically for this version. So, while the gameplay might be familiar, the maps themselves will be a fresh experience. Just note that you'll need a compatible emulator for the Commodore 64 to make this work.

Raid that tomb

Whether you're familiar with the game or not, Tutankham Returns (C64) is a great way to experience a classic in the modern-day. It faithfully captures the essence of the original, while introducing something unique and different to make the experience its own. If you're looking for a new Commodore 64 title to play, give this one a try. However, just note that you need a compatible emulator.

What is a false positive?

It means a benign program is wrongfully flagged as malicious due to an overly broad detection signature or algorithm used in an antivirus program.
